The Opportunity

An established manufacturing company is seeking a Multi-Skilled Engineer to join its team at a site in Stockton-On-Tees. This role is essential to maintaining and improving the efficiency of a high-speed production environment. The successful candidate will work a 24/7 shift pattern and be responsible for preventative and reactive maintenance of production equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct planned maintenance activities according to the maintenance schedule.

  • Diagnose and repair breakdowns efficiently, ensuring minimal downtime.

  • Maintain accurate records of work carried out on a shift basis.

  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food packaging standards.

  • Collaborate with contractors to uphold site rules and safety protocols.

  • Participate in training programs and support team development.

  • Train colleagues where necessary to maintain operational standards.

  • Prioritize tasks effectively to support site performance.

Requirements & Skills

  • Time-served engineer with a mechanical or electrical bias (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).

  • HNC qualification (or equivalent) is preferred.

  • Experience in a high-speed, high-volume manufacturing environment (plastic packaging experience is an advantage).

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills under production pressure.

  • Knowledge of PLC control systems and PLC fault finding (including servo drivers, RS Networks, Ethernet, and Device Net communications) is beneficial.

  • Hands-on mechanical experience with a solid electrical background.

  • Experience working with AB Powerflex range of AC Inverters.

  • Familiarity with TPM principles, including 5S.

  • 18th Edition certification for electrical work (if electrical bias) is advantageous.

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.

Salary & Benefits

  • Starting salary: £40,040 per year (£18.50/hour).

  • After 3-month review: £41,496 per year (£19.00/hour).

  • After 6 months (or upon achieving required standard): £43,199 per year (£19.78/hour).

  • Overtime paid at 1.25x the hourly rate.

  • 24 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays, pro-rata based on start date).

  • Company pension (Auto-enrolment Royal London Pension: 5% employee, 3% employer).

  • Health plan (after 6 months) covering dental, optical, physiotherapy, and counselling services.

  • Life assurance (after 6 months): 1x basic salary.

  • On-site parking.

Work Schedule

  • 3 on, 3 off shift pattern, rotating between 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (days) and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (nights).

  • Minimum 2-week induction period before commencing the shift pattern.
