To work under the direction of the SEND teacher to support and undertake the teaching, pastoral and administrative duties associated with a young person with an educational, health and care plan (EHCP) who will be educated 2:1 in a hub style environment.

Professional duties and responsibilities

  • To contribute to the delivery of the EHCP objectives that set out high expectations and quality outcomes for a young person with complex special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
  • To work collaboratively with families, professionals and other agencies to secure good outcomes by sharing good practice
  • To contribute to the attainment and achievement of a young person with SEND and support so that they are able to develop life skills in preparation for transitions and adulthood
  • Working in partnership and under the guidance of a SEND teacher, the post holder will carry out duties having regard for current legislation, guidance and good practice
  • Provide effective support in relation to an individual by engaging and motivating them to participate in the learning environment
  • Observe, assess, plan and teach the individual with guidance from a SEND Teacher
  • Deliver and model structured programmes as outlined in the EHCP
  • Adopt an emotion coaching approach to teaching and learning
  • Plan, prepare and adapt teaching materials, including specialist equipment, to address identified learning needs and / or behaviours and / or disability
  • Monitor and contribute to the evaluation of pupil progress and the delivery of specific programmes, strategies and interventions
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records using relevant systems in preparing reports as required for the young person's reviews
  • Participate in continued professional training and development to enhance specialist skills
  • Maintain professional working relationships with families and provide relevant feedback
  • Provide flexibility to address identified learning needs and / or behaviour and / or disability including changing place of work if required to do so to meet the needs of an individual young person
  • Monitor the young person throughout the learning process and intervene to resolve any difficult issues when they arise
  • Support managers by gathering information about pupil outcomes
  • Celebrate success and share good practice
