Our client is seeking an Engineering Manager to join their dynamic team. The successful individual will be part of, and manage, a small team of Engineers. This team designs/develops new products and maintain the designs, drawings and product documentation of new and existing group products. In the capacity of a qualified Engineer, this role will also support the business in providing solutions and advice for issues that may arise.   

About the Role

As a technically competent mechanical engineer with extensive CAD experience, and a focus on design and development and project management, the successful applicant will produce drawings and CAD models of existing and new products, as well as building and testing of new designs and prototypes as required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Resource
  • A full understanding of the company’s products as to act as a resource of technical assistance and product application advice, and assisting the Sales Department when supporting new product adoption.
  1. New Product Developments
  • Manage new product developments to agreed timescales and budgets
  • Adherence to the company’s product development procedures and completion of required documents.
  • General arrangement and detail drawings in AutoCAD/ SolidWorks.
  • Generate creative ideas/solutions, and work with those of others, to move the company’s products forward.
  • Create, draw and contribute concept ideas for new products and for existing product improvements.
  • Deliver successful new product developments on time and on budget.
  1. Prototype Manufacture and Testing
  • Arrange manufacture of prototypes through the in-house factory or external suppliers and be present and instrumental in their build and test.
  1. Testing
  • Devise appropriate test regimes, perform, and document product testing to ensure products are reliable before launch.
  1. Supporting and Leading Others
  • To support other designers in your department.
  • To ensure they are performing to the levels expected and to lead and support them with your engineering knowledge and experience to enhance their skill set over time.
  • To also engage and work with subcontract designers/agencies as and when required.
  1. Progress Reports
  • To complete information as required for each projects progress in terms of both technical and financial measures. To be submitted as requested.
  1. Ad hoc Design Work
  • Non-project-based work, which is prioritised by Management, may be required.
  1. Product Documentation
  • Creation and maintenance of product risk assessments and manuals / technical documentation as required.
  1. Quality
  • Ensuring your department is adhering to the correct processes and procedures in accordance with the business’s quality system.
  1. Sales Support
  • To support the adoption and sales of any new products developed.
  1. Site Visits
  • Occasional site visits will be required from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified, 10 years + design experience, Driving Licence

Hours:  37.5 p/week – 7.30-4, M-T & 7.30-1 Friday
