Safely operating a Class 1 HGV. Transporting goods to and from the ports, including Felixstowe, which is one of the largest container ports in the UK.
Compliance:
- Adhering to all road traffic regulations and company policies.
- Ensuring compliance with driving hours and rest period regulations (EU Tachograph rules).
Load Management:
- Properly securing loads to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Loading and unloading cargo, potentially including containers, which may involve using lifting equipment.
Documentation:
- Maintaining accurate records of deliveries, vehicle checks, and any incidents.
- Completing relevant paperwork for customs and goods delivery.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Conducting pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Reporting any vehicle defects or issues for repair.

Licences:
- A valid Category C+E (Class 1) driving licence.
- A Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
- A digital tachograph card.

Experience:
- Previous experience driving Class 1 HGVs is often preferred.
- Experience with port operations and handling containers can be advantageous.

Skills:
- Strong driving skills and good knowledge of UK road networks.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Good communication skills for interacting with clients and port staff.

Physical Fitness:
- The role can be physically demanding, requiring the ability to handle heavy loads and operate lifting equipment.
