Reporting To: Retail Area Manager

Location: MediCare: (Health and Beauty Strabane) Pharmacy

Main Function of Job:

Under the direction of the Retail Area Manager, to manage the day to day operation of the pharmacy retail area so as to maximise the shop counter turnover . Good management requires the practice and application of the MediCare rules and procedures as set out in the Branch Procedures Manual.

Main Duties:

  • To organise the staff rota to ensure staffing levels are appropriate to allow for the efficient operation of the shop at all times (including lunch & tea breaks).Overtime must be agreed with the Area Manager.
  • Manage daily tasks in order of priority.
  • Delegate jobs to staff in a clear and concise manner and ensure they are carried out quickly and efficiently.
  • Act in a fair and consistent manner to all staff at all times.
  • Assist in the development and introduction of new technologies and working practices designed to improve the efficiency and smooth running of the Store.
  • Staff Presentation organise and ensure each staff member has uniform and name badge and is presentable during working hours.
  • Key holder (if required) open / close shop when required.
  • Ensure the accurate cashing up and recording of all tills. Ensure all tills are cashed up at the end of each day.
  • Organise monies for bank lodgements and till floats.
  • Ensure that the weekly cash sheet is completed and sent to Head Office in the MediCare internal mail.
  • Ensure that all customer complaints are properly addressed and that all reasonable steps are taken to resolve the complaint to the satisfaction of the customer. All customer complaints must be recorded.
  • Stock control reviewing and placing orders to the warehouse, receiving orders into the shop, booking stock into EPOS, implementing price changes.
  • Pursue and obtain a credit for any shortages / breakages etc.
  • Management of the EPOS system.
  • Check department stocks against the monthly PLOF and ensure that all MediCare core listed products are in stock.
  • Ensure that all dated stock is checked and rotated correctly.
  • Ensure that MediCare merchandising standards are achieved especially filling and facing of shelves.
  • Implement monthly promotions and ensure all staff are aware and understand the offers and are aware of opportunities to link sell.
  • Ensure all point of sale is correctly positioned and current including shelf talkers.
  • Ensure all Head Office emails relating to the shop front are printed and read, understood and acted upon by all relevant staff.
  • Be aware of local competitor pricing and activity and where these may have an adverse effect on the Stores business, report it to the Retail Area Manager and directly to the relevant head office personnel (Buyers).
  • Ensure the product knowledge and customer service training of all retail staff is of the highest standard so that customers receive an excellent, professional and caring service at all times. This should be achieved by carrying out induction training for new staff and ongoing monitoring of existing staff performance. Where necessary specific staff training requirements are to be highlighted to the Retail Area Manager who, if necessary, will discuss this requirement with the relevant personnel at head office.
  • Participate in the provision of extended hours service, if required.
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness exists throughout the branch.
  • Ensure the on-going motivation, welfare and safety of all shop staff
  • To undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Personal Specification

Essential Criteria

  • GCSE English & Maths (Grade A-C) or equivalent.
  • Right to work in the UK (proof requested)
  • Previous experience in a similar role in a retail environment
  • Supervisory/Management experience in a similar role
  • IT literate (Microsoft Office)
  • Excellent customer service skills and be well presented

Desirable Experience

  • Experience selling (and an understanding of Premium Fragrance in a retail environment)
  • Staff training experience
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
  • Relevant training and qualification from a recognised professional body

Health & Safety

  • You must make yourself aware of the MediCare Health & Safety Policy (see Shop Manual) and conform to all regulations regarding safe practices.
  • You must Co-operate fully with the implementation of MediCares Health &Safety arrangements and report any accidents / incidents, defects with work equipment or inadequate safety arrangements to your branch manager.
  • You must ensure that agreed safe systems of work are observed by all staff.
