Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team. The successful candidate will provide critical support to production and packaging operations, ensuring that plant equipment operates effectively and efficiently. This role requires expertise in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and involves a proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement.

The Multi-Skilled Engineer will be pivotal in ensuring that all maintenance activities align with health, safety, and environmental regulations while striving to enhance operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
  • Perform fault diagnosis and repairs to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Address breakdowns promptly and escalate issues when necessary.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Conduct planned and preventive maintenance to optimise equipment reliability.
  • Support the implementation of predictive maintenance programmes.

Continuous Improvement

  • Actively participate in initiatives to improve asset performance and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify and resolve recurring issues.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all activities adhere to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental standards, supporting sustainability goals.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately record completed tasks, parts used, and issues identified in the CMMS.
  • Communicate effectively during shift handovers to ensure continuity.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with other engineers, production staff, and apprentices to maintain operational excellence.
  • Support and mentor junior team members when required.

Technical Expertise

  • Interpret and follow engineering drawings, including electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Operate within established procedures for condition monitoring, asset history, and risk assessments.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Completed apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food or FMCG sector.
  • Proficient in the use of CMMS and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of continuous improvement methodologies.

Desirable:

  • Degree-level education in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in FMCG manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with specific systems, such as Piranha (Shire).

Additional Information

  • The role requires working on a rotating 24/7 shift pattern.
  • Training will be provided where necessary to support personal development and compliance with operational standards.

This is a critical role for maintaining the operational efficiency of the site. By proactively addressing maintenance needs, the Multi-Skilled Engineer will contribute significantly to minimising downtime and ensuring production targets are met.
