Environmental Health and Safety Manager

About the Role:We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to join our client's dynamic team in Stroud. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for fostering a safe working environment for all employees, customers, visitors, and contractors. Your leadership will be crucial in implementing comprehensive environmental and safety programs, ensuring compliance with HSE regulations, and cultivating a "safety comes first" culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Management:
    • Lead initiatives to improve safety and environmental compliance for all applicable programs.
    • Collaborate with plant leadership and support staff to implement and enhance compliance measures.
    • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure the organization adheres to local and national safety regulations.
  • Program Development:
    • Oversee the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, and Safety written programs.
    • Ensure that all programs are aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Training Administration:
    • Administer comprehensive Safety and Environmental training programs for hourly and salaried employees.
    • Ensure effective learning techniques are applied, including Skills Matrix, VWI's, e-learning, and classroom sessions with external vendors.
    • Document training processes and maintain accurate records of employee training status.
  • Inspections and Audits:
    • Understand and apply Safety and Environmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Lead during regulatory inspections by external agencies and ensure that all safety and environmental practices meet compliance standards.
    • Prepare for and conduct internal audits to identify areas for improvement.
  • Incident Management:
    • Collaborate with teams to investigate incidents, including spills and safety events, to identify root causes.
    • Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and enhance safety protocols.
    • Track and analyse incident data to identify trends and areas for further training or intervention.
  • Behaviour-Based Safety:
    • Conduct Partner Safety Observations (PSO) training for plant leaders to foster proactive safety behaviours.
    • Validate both the quantity and quality of safety observations, providing feedback to continuously improve practices.
  • Facilities Management:
    • Oversee the facilities management requirements for the site, ensuring that safety standards are met in all operational areas.
    • Coordinate with maintenance teams to address safety-related facility issues promptly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Occupational Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., NEBOSH) will also be considered.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record in creating and implementing safety programs, conducting plant audits, and identifying opportunities for regulatory improvement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • A proactive approach to safety management and a passion for fostering a culture of safety.
