Location:South Gloucestershire

Position:Permanent

Salary:Competitive + excellent development opportunities

About Our Client

Walker & Sloan are representing an ambitious and growing construction company based in South Gloucestershire that has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects throughout the region. They're known for their collaborative work environment, commitment to innovation, and investment in developing talented professionals from the ground up.

The Opportunity

Our client is looking to bring on an Assistant/Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their quantity surveying career to learn and grow within a supportive environment while working on varied and interesting construction projects across South Gloucestershire and the wider Bristol area.

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you'll assist senior quantity surveyors with a range of commercial tasks including preparing cost estimates, processing valuations, and analyzing quotations. You'll help with procurement activities, support the tendering process, and assist with contract administration. The position involves site visits to measure completed works, maintaining project cost records, and helping to identify and mitigate potential cost risks. You'll gradually take on more responsibility as you develop your skills, with excellent mentorship from experienced professionals who are invested in your success.

Your Background

The ideal candidate will have some relevant education in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field. You may be a recent graduate or someone currently studying part-time toward RICS accreditation. While previous construction industry experience would be beneficial, we're equally interested in candidates who demonstrate strong numerical ability, attention to detail, and enthusiasm for learning about commercial construction practices. You should have good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, and a willingness to learn industry-specific software.

What's On Offer

My client provides a competitive starting salary with regular reviews as you progress. They offer fully funded support for professional qualifications, including day release for studies if required. You'll benefit from structured training, regular feedback, and mentoring from senior quantity surveyors. Additional benefits include a company pension scheme, health benefits, and opportunities to visit diverse construction sites across the region. The company culture emphasizes work-life balance and celebrates team achievements.
