Functional Skills Maths Tutor - Work with an SEN School
Are you passionate about teaching and empowering young people with diverse needs? We are partnering with an SEN school to recruit a committed, enthusiastic Functional Skills Maths Tutor. In this role, you will have the rewarding responsibility of teaching numeracy skills to students aged 16-25 of mixed abilities, supporting their growth and engagement in a unique, hands-on learning environment.
About the RoleAs a Functional Skills Maths Tutor, you will deliver maths teaching to students at various levels, from Pre-Entry Level up to Level 2, while collaborating with other tutors to integrate numeracy within practical skills environments. You'll foster a learning atmosphere that enhances self-esteem and engagement, supporting students as they build foundational skills aligned with their individual needs and strengths.
Hours and Salary Options:
- Full-Time (40 hours per week, 40 weeks per year):
- Full-Time Equivalent Salary: £31,547 - £32,900 per annum, with potential earnings up to £37,634 based on completed internal training and length of service
- Actual Salary: £27,679 - £28,666 per annum, pro-rated, with potential earnings as above
- Part-Time (24 hours per week, 40 weeks per year):
- Actual Salary: £16,560 - £17,319 per annum, pro-rated, with potential earnings as above
- Teach numeracy skills to students with special educational needs, including those with challenging behaviors and mental health difficulties
- Support other tutors in embedding numeracy within practical skills-based sessions, in both classroom and outdoor settings
- Instill enthusiasm and enjoyment in learning to enhance student engagement and self-esteem
- Tailor teaching to students with varying learning barriers, supporting their progression in a supportive, therapeutic educational environment
- Experience working with young people and vulnerable adults with SEN, challenging behaviors, and mental health needs
- Ability to teach maths from Pre-Entry Level up to Level 2; experience with GCSE teaching (or willingness to train towards it)
- Appropriate teaching qualifications, such as a PGCE, or equivalent, and a minimum Level 3 subject specialism in numeracy
- Professional, flexible approach with the ability to work alongside students in practical craft, land-based, and classroom environments
