Job Overview
Our Client is seeking an experienced Programme Manager with a strong background in product development to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple projects from concept through to high-volume manufacturing. This role requires a hands-on leader with the technical understanding to work effectively alongside software, hardware, and mechanical engineers, as well as the strategic vision to contribute to the development of a Project Management Office (PMO) structure over time. The candidate will manage diverse, cross-functional teams and ensure alignment on objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Process Development & Implementation
- Design and establish a project management process based on industry best practices, and apply it across all projects.
- Develop and implement processes that support the full project lifecycle, from concept to high-volume manufacturing.
- Project Planning
- Create and maintain comprehensive project plans, defining scope, objectives, timelines, resources, and deliverables for each project.
- Utilise project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid models) appropriate to the specific needs of each project and ensure consistent application.
- Resource & Capacity Management
- Develop tools and processes for work estimation, effort recording, and demand vs. capacity planning.
- Prioritise activities and allocate resources efficiently to optimise project timelines and budgets.
- Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including clients, project team members, and the leadership team, ensuring clear alignment on objectives and priorities.
- Serve as a credible technical representative with engineering teams, working effectively across disciplines (software, hardware, mechanical).
- Risk & Budget Management
- Identify potential risks and establish mitigation strategies to ensure minimal disruption and smooth project delivery.
- Quality Assurance
- Implement quality control processes to ensure that project deliverables meet established standards, technical specifications, and client requirements.
- Communication & Reporting
- Facilitate clear and transparent communication among stakeholders, ensuring alignment and engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare regular progress reports and presentations for executive leadership, highlighting key milestones, accomplishments, challenges, and recommendations.
- Possess credibility when sitting with software, electronic hardware, mechanical & design engineers.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and implement best practices that enhance efficiency and effectiveness across all projects.
- Team Leadership
- Provide mentorship and guidance to project teams, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Contribute to the vision and incremental development of a PMO structure to support future projects.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Min. 5 years of project management experience, ideally within electronics or related physical product development (consumer, medical device, or something analogous)
- Methodologies: Strong working knowledge of project management methodologies, including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid approaches.
- Technical Competence: Ability to work credibly with cross-functional teams, including software, electronic hardware, and mechanical engineering.
- Project Management Tools: Proficiency in tools such as MS Project, Jira, or similar PM software.
Desirable Qualifications
- Industry-Specific Experience: Background in high-volume manufacturing and supply chain processes, ideally within electronics or similar industries.
- Certification: PMP / Prince2, or equivalent certification.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an aptitude for balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Vision for PMO Development: Ability to work towards a 'top-down' PMO structure while implementing practical 'bottom-up' process improvements.
