Milk Education are looking for a a passionate Cookery Teacher to join our team and inspire students through hands-on culinary education. As a Cookery Teacher, you will deliver engaging and practical cooking lessons to students with SEMH needs, fostering a positive learning environment. You will teach students essential cooking skills while also encouraging creativity, teamwork, and confidence. This is a unique opportunity for a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a love for food and a passion for helping students thrive in a non-traditional educational setting. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable but not essential.

Cookery Teacher Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver creative and engaging cookery lessons to students of varying abilities and needs.
  • Teach essential cooking techniques, nutrition, food safety, and healthy eating practices.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.
  • Adapt lessons to meet individual needs, ensuring that all students can access the curriculum.
  • Support students in developing their social and communication skills through group cooking activities.
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and support as needed.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Cookery Teacher Non-Negotiables:

  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH or in a PRU setting.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and nutrition.
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • A passion for teaching and helping students develop practical life skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students.

Desirables

Desirable:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience delivering practical subjects or vocational qualifications.
  • Food Hygiene certification or a willingness to obtain it.
