Principal Civil Engineer
Salary: 55,000 - 70,000
Hours: 37.5 hours a week
Location: South West London

Overview:
Our client is actively looking for a Civil/Structural Engineer at a Principal grade (or Senior), to support a very healthy and growing pipeline of work.
The work will be typically related to substation projects but there may also be the opportunity to work on rail related projects as well.

Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake multi-disciplinary design and co-ordination activities with all relevant members of the design team.
- Attend design team, site and client meetings as required and keep accurate notes of all discussions.
- Maintain good, clear and proactive communication with all relevant members of the design team to ensure all are aware of project progress.
- Supervise junior staff, manage team workflow, and ensure deadlines, quality, and invoicing targets are met.
- Manage junior engineers and technicians to produce complete, co-ordinated and high-quality project information (calculations, drawings, specifications and other documents) on time and on budget to meet agreed deadlines avoiding on site delays.
- Liaise with clients and the design team to ensure that efficient and integrated structural solutions are produced on all projects which are sensitive to the design intent.
- Highlight resource needs and improvement opportunities to the Engineering Manager.
- Prepare and issue bids and fee proposals for new projects.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in a design consultancy
- Some design experience within the power/energy market
- Experience of monitoring compliance with design, statutory professional requirements
- Experience of attending design review and constructability meetings with clients including Network Rail, Tier One/Principal Contractors as well as national and local authorities.
- Ability to represent the company on site visits/surveys (sometimes in unsociable hours) in a professional manner.
Desirable:
- A Masters degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Membership of a relevant professional body (ICE or IStructE) or near chartered
- Experience of effective financial management and control of projects
- Having a current clean UK driving license for travel throughout the UK to visit sites and carry out inspections from time to time would be an advantage.
