We are working very closely with a Secondary School in Sutton Coldfield,  we are looking for a Pastoral Support Officer to support a number of students within the school. The successful candidate will be part of the pastoral team whose main aim will be to support emotional regulation, wellbeing and support successful access to learning.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to build meaningful relationships with pupils who may display a variety of needs. You will need to be able to effectively communicate with staff, parents and external professionals to ensure that the needs of the children are met and they are safe at all times.

The role will primarily be a pastoral role, working to find strategies to overcome lack of self-confidence, self-esteem or other difficulties, which a child may be facing. The aim of your role is to ensure that the students’ personal well-being is improved and maintained.

As a Student Support Officer in conjunction with the inclusion lead, you’ll typically need to:

  • liaise with staff to identify children who would benefit from mentoring.
  • discuss and help decide how identified needs will be addressed.
  • implement strategies and support children in self-esteem and confidence-building activities.
  • support children who are underperforming in their subjects, either on a one-to-one basis outside the classroom or within lessons.
  • listen to children and help them resolve a range of issues that are creating barriers to their learning.
  • draw up agreed action plans with children, outlining the aims of the mentoring, and monitor their progress.
  • help monitor attendance and punctuality of children.
