About the Role

As a Level 2 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in creating a supportive, calming, and nurturing learning environment for pupils with Special Educational Needs. Working alongside teachers and SENCOs, you will contribute to a positive learning experience tailored to each child's unique needs and abilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide dedicated support to students with SEN, particularly those with Autism, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, and challenging behaviour.
  • Follow and implement Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for individual students to ensure their progress and well-being.
  • Adapt learning methods to cater to lower-ability levels, ensuring that all students can access the curriculum.
  • Use refocusing methods and other strategies to help students manage behavior and remain engaged in learning.
  • Foster a calm and nurturing environment, helping students to feel safe, respected, and valued.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other professionals to continuously assess and meet the changing needs of students.
Essential Requirements:
  • Experience: A minimum of 6 months’ experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant in the UK.
  • Skills:
    • Understanding of SEN needs, including Autism, SEMH, and challenging behavior.
    • Ability to follow and apply EHCPs with accuracy and empathy.
    • Proficiency in using refocusing techniques and de-escalation methods.
    • Adaptability in delivering differentiated learning methods.
  • Personal Qualities:
    • Patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting pupils with diverse needs.
    • Strong communication skills to engage with students, staff, and parents effectively.
    • A commitment to fostering an inclusive, safe, and positive learning atmosphere.
