Health & Safety Technician - Field Based

JOB PURPOSE:

To support the Health and Safety Manager in the day-to-day functions of the Health and Safety department for the estate

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor Health and Safety Systems to ensure that they are accurately updated and maintained on a regular basis
  • Assist the Health and Safety support assistant
  • Monitor compliance documentation spreadsheets and assist the Health and Safety manager with updates when necessary
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal systems and practices by ensuring Health and Safety related documentation is completed, logged, and filedcorrectly, and suggesting new and improved systems that can be implemented
  • Respond appropriately and professionally to internal and external Health and Safety issues and enquiries including dealing with issues that arise in stores and support centres
  • Collaborate with the property and security departments and assist where necessary with issues that arise from a Health and Safety perspective
  • Complete store visits for inspections and audits
  • Undertake site H&S visits for refurbishment projects
  • Undertake accident investigations
  • Lead the stores Health and Safety committee
  • Other duties in accordance with the role and within remit of skill base
  • To assume the position of deputy in the absence of the Health and Safety Manager

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good organisational skills with an eye for detail and the ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks
  • Good communication and IT skills including the ability to work with Word and Excel spreadsheets. Also to provide a high standard of written report and associated correspondence
  • Ability to follow instructions and work on own initiative
  • An appreciation and understanding of confidentiality
  • The ability to meet deadlines
  • Flexible in approach with the ability to respond to changing demands, which can be unpredictable and unplanned
  • The ability to understand the importance of processing information in a prompt, efficient manner and in accordance with legislation.
  • Has a keen interest in, and is able to demonstrate a positive attitude towards, Health and Safety
  • Full driving licence

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Health and safety technician apprenticeship qualification or NEBOSH general certificate or willing to undertake the relevant training
  • Previous experience in conducting H&S audits and Fire Risk Assessments
