Our students have a range of diverse needs including profound learning disabilities, communication and behavioural difficulties, and specific medical needs. We aim to empower students to achieve their aspirations and independence.
As an Occupational Therapist, you will be part of our highly valued Integrated Services Team, working in collaboration with lecturers, support staff, parents, carers, and external professionals to support our learners in all aspects of the curriculum.
Occupational Therapist - Role:
- Collaborating with curriculum staff, parents, and carers
- Promoting student independence and access to life
- Creating capable environments within a Positive Behaviour Support framework
- Supporting self-regulation and independence through exploring feelings and triggers
- Recommending affordable, evidence-based assistive devices and technology
- Promoting health and wellbeing through appropriate seating and community engagement
- Championing creative projects to enhance curriculum engagement
- Supporting each other in professional development
Occupational Therapist - Person Specification:
- Degree or Graduate Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- UK HPC Registration
- Experience with individuals over 16 with severe/profound learning disabilities and/or Autism
- Strong collaborative skills and ability to work independently
- Experience with SEND reforms and EHCPs
- Effective communication skills and ability to manage clinical caseloads
- Commitment to CPD and promoting equality and diversity policies
Occupational Therapist - Additional Requirements:
- Ability to respond to challenging behaviour and carry out physical interventions
- Basic manual handling training
- Preparedness for exposure to bodily fluids
- Willingness to work across various college centres and community spaces
- Potential weekend work for residential trips and open days
