Science Teacher - SEMH Specialist

Location: Sutton, Carshalton
Salary: 200-300 per day
Contract Type: Full-time

We are seeking an experienced Science Teacher to join a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Carshalton. The school caters to pupils across all Key Stages who present with SEMH needs, including complex social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Some students also have associated learning difficulties. A strong background or genuine interest in working with SEMH children and young people is essential.



Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery:
    Plan, prepare, and teach engaging Science lessons that cater to a diverse range of needs across all key stages.
  • Department Leadership:
    Develop schemes of work in line with school policy and external requirements. Manage department resources, including budgeting and procurement.
  • Assessment and Progress:
    Monitor and track student progress within the subject area, ensuring accurate examination entries in collaboration with the Examinations Officer and Assistant Headteacher.
  • Student Engagement:
    Motivate pupils through imaginative and enthusiastic teaching. Provide constructive feedback to support their academic and personal development.
  • Behaviour Management:
    Maintain a positive and disciplined classroom environment that fosters learning.
  • Parental Communication:
    Regularly update parents/carers on pupil progress and collaborate to ensure the best outcomes for the students.
  • School Activities:
    Take part in school events, outings, and activities to enrich the educational experience.
  • Professional Development:
    Stay informed on curriculum updates and advancements in SEMH education.


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience or keen interest in teaching students with SEMH needs and behavioural difficulties.
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to adapt to challenging situations.
  • Experience teaching Science in a mainstream, special, or PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) setting.
  • Enthusiasm for supporting the development and success of students with complex needs.
