Position Overview:

We are seeking a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team of speech therapists and occupational therapists. This locum position offers the chance to work within local schools and colleges, catering to children and young people aged 4 to 25, or focusing on a smaller age range.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a team to provide assessments and interventions for children and young people with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN), including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD).
  • Advise and support local schools and settings in managing their caseloads, aiming to deliver intended outcomes while adhering to service standards.
  • Raise awareness of SLCN, educating staff and caregivers on effective strategies to support children and young people.
  • Develop and implement individualized therapy plans, adjusting as necessary to meet diverse needs.
  • Monitor progress and document outcomes, ensuring compliance with service protocols.
  • Engage with families to provide guidance and resources for home support.
  • Participate in training and workshops to enhance team skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • A recognized degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • HCPC registration is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, particularly within educational settings, is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Understanding of SLCN, ASD, and PMLD, and the strategies that support these needs.
