Role Summary

This is an exciting time to join a busy rail company as a Mechanical Fitter.

As a Mechanical Fitter you will be responsible for the maintenance of the train interiors for an operational fleet. This will consist of variety of tasks to ensure all fittings and fixtures are presentable, functional and safe.

The role

  • You will check the condition of specified fittings and fixtures within the train interiors and carry out any necessary repairs. This will include seating, windows, table trays, toilets, baby change area, hand dryers, paint repairs, window glazing etc.
  • Activities will include quality checks, basic mechanical fitting, general condition maintenance, graffiti removal / heavy cleaning and condition reporting.
  • You will help proactively manage the inventory levels of materials, machines, and tools, promptly reporting any shortages.
  • You will act as the first line of response to any faults or damage within the train interiors, observing and monitoring the condition of fixtures and fittings and taking relevant steps to rectify any damages observed by yourself or reported by others.
  • You will ensure that all work carried out is recorded correctly and meets the required standards.
  • You will work to the necessary HSEQ requirements at all times to ensure the safety of yourself, colleagues and customers.
  • You will undertake relevant training and competency assessments related to the role responsibilities.

As this role is working in a live rail depot, we will require all successful applicants to pass a rail standard drugs & alcohol test prior to start and they will be subject to the client’s policy of random testing throughout their engagement.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Competent in basic mechanical fitting tasks
  • Experience in the rail sector is desirable, however we welcome applicants from any trades, engineering, production or facilities maintenance backgrounds
  • Ability to work to high standards in a safety critical environment
  • Good team player
  • Organised & able to prioritise workload
  • Current PTS would be highly desirable; however, training can be provided

Due to the nature of the role, we welcome applications from any facilities maintenance / management background, train care, rail operatives, site maintenance, production / mechanical assembly, vehicle building, mechanical fitting or general maintenance background
