Engineer

Location: Gravesend
Days & Hours of Work: 4 on 4 off rotating, all nights 18:00 - 06:00
Salary: Up to 52,000 per year

We are seeking a skilled Engineering Technician to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. This role is integral in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of production equipment, driving continuous improvement, and upholding safety and quality standards




Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead planned maintenance activities, supporting the Shift Engineering Manager and Maintenance Planner in daily maintenance execution.

  • Apply reliability and continuous improvement principles to enhance equipment availability and performance.

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures while achieving operational and engineering key performance indicators.

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives within production and engineering processes.

  • Promote and support Engineering Team development and training.




Main Duties:

  • Strict adherence to all Health & Safety policies, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) and Permit to Work systems.

  • Lead and demonstrate safe work practices while ensuring the safety of engineering staff and contractors.

  • Foster a proactive safety culture to minimize accidents and near misses.

  • Understand and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and continuous improvement strategies.

  • Ensure compliance with hygiene, technical, QA, and Health & Safety requirements.

  • Perform scheduled maintenance on manufacturing equipment and associated plant.

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly, applying strong problem-solving skills.

  • Assist the Engineering Shift Manager in daily duties and attend relevant production and engineering meetings.

  • Conduct root cause analysis to identify and rectify recurring issues.

  • Maintain thorough maintenance records and documentation.

  • Support production teams by reducing downtime and enhancing operational efficiency.

  • Manage and control spare stock levels in collaboration with the Engineering Shift Managers and Maintenance Planner.

  • Participate in internal and external training programs to develop engineering expertise.

  • Train and mentor other Engineering Team members as needed.

  • Engage in capital and improvement projects.

  • Maintain high housekeeping standards within the Engineering Department and across the site.

  • Perform manual handling tasks and work in cold storage conditions regularly.




Who We Are Looking For:

  • Minimum HNC qualification in either mechanical or electrical discipline with strong multi-skilled expertise in both areas.

  • At least 5 years of engineering experience in a relevant field.

  • PLC fault-finding experience and machine control systems knowledge.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.

  • Desirable: PLC programming experience.

  • Desirable: Knowledge of multi-head weighing and filling equipment.

  • Desirable: HACCP experience and/or formal training.

  • Highly desirable: Experience in the food industry or FMCG sector.
