Carbon60 are currently looking for a Mechanical fitter to join a client of ours based in Cardiff. This position is a temp to perm position carrying out maintenance and repair to rotating equipment.

Working Hours/Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours/week, 7:30am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday,

Hourly rates for this position are based on skillset and experience.

  • Band 2 32,177/ annum, 16.50/hour
  • Band 3 34,184/annum, 17.53/hour
  • Band 4 36,984/annum, 18.97/hour

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • You will carry out Repairs to all types of industrial equipment including AC and DC motors, Motorised Gearboxes, Gearbox's, Pumps, Fan units, Generators and other associated rotating equipment
    • Size of component can vary significantly from one job to the next - could be a fractional horse powered fan unit, then next one could be a 5-ton DC mill motor or large vertical pump.
  • You will have the ability to fault find and identify and rectify defects and worn / damaged components
  • Advantageous to have basic electrical testing capability to assess electrical condition of AC & DC components - will be taking examination to verify and won't be working alone
  • Have sound mechanical engineering knowledge to identify and rectify faulty and worn / damaged components
  • You will be flexible and be prepared to work the hours required in a demanding and busy 24 / 7 service orientated environment
  • Participate in call out rota as required
  • Site working experience and CCNSG passport is advantageous not essential, can be certified to do so

Essential skills / experience / qualifications:

  • Any prior experience with DC motors and pumps in a maintenance capacity highly desirable
  • Any electrical DC repair work advantageous
  • Engineering background, NVQ Level 3, ONC, HNC City and Guilds or equivalent
  • Time served also applicable
  • Need to have practical skillset as well as academic understanding
  • Able to meet physical demands of the role
  • Understanding of repairing rotating equipment even without direct prior experience
  • Manual machining/lathing experience advantageous
  • Understanding engineering technical drawings
