Are you passionate about preserving England’s historic environment? We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Building Services Engineer to join a leading public body dedicated to championing historic places. This role is part of the Technical Conservation Team within the National Specialist Services Department, focusing on the care, repair, and conservation of buildings, structures, and landscapes. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract.

Location: Hybrid working from Swindon or Bristol but with travel nationwide when required.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Building Services Engineer, you will play a crucial role in promoting sympathetic approaches to building services engineering solutions within the historic environment. Your expertise will support and deliver:

National grants programmes

Statutory consent applications

Heritage at Risk projects

Pre-application and statutory advisory services

Enhanced advisory services

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for a Chartered Engineer who is a Member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers or Institution of Mechanical Engineers, with substantial practical experience. Ideal candidates will have:

Experience in managing mechanical building services engineering design and implementation

Expertise in energy management solutions and best practices

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to apply basic engineering principles

This role requires travel to various sites, including remote locations not served by public transport. A full UK driving license is essential. You may also need to travel or stay overnight occasionally. The role involves working in exposed or difficult terrains, such as construction sites, and the ability to climb scaffolding is essential.
