Contract Rate: 62/hour

Contract Length: 12 weeks

Overview:

As Head of Highways and Transportation, you will lead the strategic and operational management of Highways and Transportation services, ensuring high performance aligned with the local council's vision and priorities. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will oversee a budget of 30M, lead a team of 200, and drive initiatives that improve services, ensure compliance, and foster collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

  • Provide strategic leadership for transport services, integrating them into Council priorities.
  • Oversee long-term infrastructure planning and sustainable transport strategies.
  • Develop policies and programs to enhance operational efficiency and customer focus.

Operational Management

  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements in highways, transportation, and flood management.
  • Manage key areas, including Traffic Management, Asset Maintenance, and Public Transport.
  • Deliver large-scale capital programs and monitor contractor performance.

Budget and Performance

  • Manage a 30M budget, ensuring value for money and compliance with financial goals.
  • Monitor service performance, setting high standards and achieving local targets.
  • Secure external funding for infrastructure projects and economic development initiatives.

Collaboration

  • Work with internal teams, elected members, and external partners to achieve strategic goals.
  • Integrate transportation considerations into planning and development processes.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, operational excellence, and customer service.

Decision-Making

  • Make informed decisions, balancing operational risks with strategic objectives.
  • Lead emergency planning and risk management efforts.

Innovation and Improvement

  • Continuously improve service delivery through innovation and best practices.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven senior leadership in Highways or Transportation within local government or related fields.

Qualifications
