Credit Risk & Portfolio Management DirectorLocation: SwindonContract: Temporary (6 month initial) Rate: £900 Per Day Umbrella Start date: ASAP*Hybrid Working*Contact: .ukJob DescriptionService Care Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a Central Government Body in Swindon for a Credit Risk & Portfolio Management Director. Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, you will lead a team of experts, shape financial strategies, and engage with senior government stakeholders to drive innovation in the UK economy. If you have a passion for strategic leadership, risk management, and economic impact, we’d love to hear from you!Main responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 10 credit and investment specialists and 8 debt portfolio management experts to manage a high-risk SME loan portfolio with mezzanine/structured finance features.
  • Oversee credit, investment, arrears, default, and recovery decisions, operating within delegated authority.
  • Ensure adherence to responsible lending and debt management policies, aligning with the FCA’s Treating Customers Fairly framework.
  • Represent Innovate UK in policy, funding, and risk governance discussions, collaborating with UKRI, the British Business Bank, and Government stakeholders.
  • Provide expert opinion on credit and portfolio management at the Credit Committee and contribute to public/government forums as a thought leader.
Candidate Requirements
  • SME Lending & Investment Expertise
  • Proven experience in SME lending, investment decisions, and structured/mezzanine finance in a fund, banking, or alternative finance environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of building, leading, and coaching high-performing teams across technical disciplines.
  • Experience in originating and managing SME loan portfolios, launching new financial products, and aligning with risk and finance strategies.
  • Familiarity with Subsidy Control regulations, Managing Public Money, and fair value accounting (IFRS9), plus experience engaging with senior government stakeholders.
  • Degree-qualified or holding a relevant professional qualification, with substantial hands-on experience in credit risk and portfolio management.
