Job Purpose

The Driving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the driving team, ensuring that all deliveries are carried out efficiently, safely, and in accordance with company standards. The role requires a combination of hands-on leadership and strong organizational skills to support the transport department in meeting its goals.

Key Responsibilities

Operate an effective manning schedule to ensure that the distribution fleet is operated at optimum efficiency.

Ensure that all drivers are aware of and comply with the Company Health & Safety policy and that all areas of potential hazard are reported to the Operations Manager immediately.

Ensure that all drivers wear the Company uniform and protective clothing provided and at all times are of smart appearance.

Provide on the job training and development to all drivers on a regular basis to ensure that each employee is developed to their maximum potential.

Regularly communicate, either in writing or verbally, relevant company information from the drivers to the Operations Manager and visa versa.

Ensure that the distribution fleet is cleaned and maintained in good order and that any issues requiring attention are reported and discussed with the Operations Manager immediately, including the repairs of any equipment.

Regularly check to see that products delivered on the distribution fleet are handled and stored carefully to ensure that they reach customers in perfect condition.

Ensure that all procedures as laid down by the Company for the management of the distribution fleet are adhered to.

Provide sickness or holiday cover, as required, for driving and warehouse personnel.

Ensure the security of the site is maintained at all times and particularly at the beginning and end of each day.

Ensure that route planners are up to date at all times.

Maintain an effective system of administration to incorporate all required Company paperwork including tachograph and defect sheets, ensuring all drivers complete as required.

As required, provided week-end, Bank Holiday and security checks at the distribution centre on buildings, freezers and HGV fleet.

To assist in the warehouse picking and loading goods in line with contracted hours.

Any other general duties required within the grading of this position.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid UK Driving Licence (Category C or higher preferred).
  • Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is essential.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role within transport, logistics, or a similar industry.
  • Proven track record in managing a team of drivers and optimizing delivery operations.
  • Knowledge of UK driving regulations, tachograph laws, and health and safety requirements.
