The RoleAre you a patient and supportive individual looking to make a real difference in a child's education? We are seeking a Primary School Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for students with additional needs. This is a rewarding role where you will help children access learning, develop confidence, and thrive in a mainstream school environment. As a 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with individual students who require specific support to engage with lessons and develop essential skills. You will work alongside teachers to implement strategies that promote progress and well-being. Main Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support to primary aged children with SEND.
  • Help students engage with lessons.
  • Implement strategies to support learning, emotional regulation, and independence.
  • Adapt resources and teaching methods to meet the child's individual needs.
  • Manage behaviour in a calm and patient manner.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.
  • Foster a nurturing and trusting relationship to help children feel safe, valued, and motivated.
  • Provide regular feedback on progress.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with individuals who have additional needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm approach to behaviour management.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and needs.
  • A good team player with a positive attitude in challenging situations.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience working in primary schools settings
  • Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3).
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and communication strategies (e.g., Makaton, PECS).

Applicants who do not have a non-voluntary enhanced DBS on the update service, will need to process a new one at a cost of £62.70.
