A well-established SEN school in the Swindon district are recruiting graduates for a Social, Emotional, Mental Health Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to join their support staff team and aid their students in coping with social, emotional and mental health needs. This would be a perfect platform for a graduate hoping to become a qualified Psychologist in their future career, with a genuine passion in supporting young people with psychological needs.
This school's student population come from diverse backgrounds, with some facing differing challenges related to neglect, trauma and anxiety. These young people require consistency and support to help regulate their emotions and process their thoughts and feelings. The successful SEMH TA will help students to approach these challenges in a healthy manner, therefore will need to be resilient, passionate and enthusiastic about mental health support.
SEMH TA will be working on a one-to-one basis to ensure students are on task while collaborating with the class teacher, on-site professionals and other experienced staff to provide tailored education. As an SEMH TA, you will play a role in identifying and addressing possible triggers for the pupils in regard to their trauma and psychological needs. The role of a SEMH TA will also include facilitating different therapeutic techniques with the goal of promoting students' mental well-being. The ideal Psychology Graduate will be proactive, friendly and approachable, with a keen interest in pursuing a career in Mental Health Support. Any previous experience working with young children or adults with additional needs would be beneficial but not crucial.
