Are you an experienced SEND practitioner looking for a role where you can truly make a difference? Do you want to move beyond traditional classroom support to help young people discover their potential through real-world projects? This term time role could be for you!
The Platform Project is an innovative social enterprise with a difference. We work closely with local authorities, education institutions and local employers to bridge the gap between education and employment through our unique concept of a 'training workplace’. We run an alternative provision (AP) service for schools which aims to engage and develop students who are at risk of dropping out or being permanently excluded from education before they turn 18. We specialise in youth enterprise, creative careers and employability skills where students attend our experiential learning project sessions alongside / instead of mainstream education lessons.
We’re seeking a Youth Trainer (SEND Specialist) to join our team on a part-time, permanent basis to run experiential development sessions with our students. From group workshops to small group delivery and 1:1 work where needed, this is a unique opportunity to be part of an alternative provision model creating work ready, capable and confident entry level talent.
Based in Swindon, this part-time role offers £15 per hour, with hours of work in term time only - Monday - Friday. The hours are flexible dependent on needs of our student and availability.
In the role of Youth Trainer (SEND Specialist) you’ll be responsible for:
- Working with the Programme Lead to deliver youth development sessions, in a creative, engaging and safe environment.
- Managing student behaviour and engagement with a clear and calm approach, maintaining firm, empathetic boundaries.
- Coordinating the production of individual plans for students with additional needs, informed by EHCP’s and other school plans.
- Ensuring resources are required for effective SEND support is in place.
- Identifying any potential concerns when working with our students that might indicate safeguarding issues and promptly raise concerns with Designated Safeguarding Lead.
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- A minimum of two years experience in training or developing young people with SEND.
- Passion for helping young people succeed.
- Experience in designing activities that intentionally stretch skills and confidence.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
The Role:
This role is unique to our innovative alternative provision model and blends elements of a traditional (SEN) Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Youth Mentor and Trainer. The post holder must be a patient, inclusive, resilient, flexible and creative person who is student focused and thrives when working as part of a small team to bring about a big difference in the lives of challenging but vulnerable young people.
