Electrical Design Engineer (Contractor)

Purpose of the Role: As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering effective product design solutions, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. Your role will involve creating innovative electrical designs that maximize value, managing scope changes, and supporting assembly and commissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality electrical designs, adhering to regulatory requirements.
Continuously innovate to enhance the value of electrical design services.
Maintain commercial awareness to ensure cost-effective design solutions and proper management of scope changes.
Manage workload to meet project schedules and ensure timely delivery of design outputs.
Provide technical input during design review meetings.
Support assembly and commissioning activities to ensure successful project delivery.
Foster strong partnerships with customers, providing excellent communication and unparalleled service.

Technical Responsibilities:

Interpret customer and regulatory requirements to deliver accurate electrical designs.
Ensure all design documents are issued in line with project schedules.
Collaborate with team leads to verify design quality, ensuring it meets company standards and regulatory guidelines.
Provide technical support during internal and external design reviews.
Contribute to resource planning, ensuring visibility for other departments to proactively plan.
Liaise with panel builders and electricians to ensure alignment with design documents.

Compliance and Improvement:

Support compliance with ISO13849, ISO14001, ISO9001, OHSAS18001, and contribute to Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
Archive design documents as per company procedures to ensure consistency and accreditation maintenance.
Promote internal customer ethos by striving for right-first-time designs delivered on time and in full.

Knowledge and Experience:

Expertise in generating electrical design documents (wiring diagrams, cable schedules, parts lists).
Commercial awareness in resource management and scope changes.
Experience in industrial automation design within manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of British and international standards related to industrial automation systems.
Experience in validating designs in accordance with the Machinery Directive and other relevant standards.

Skills and Qualifications:

Proficiency in electrical design software (preferably EPlan) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work within tight deadlines.
HNC, HND, or BSc in electrical or mechatronic engineering with relevant post-graduate design experience.
Desirable: Apprentice-trained with at least 3 years of electrical design experience.
Working Relationships: Collaborates with design team, departmental managers, customers, suppliers, and external institutions.
