Job Overview

  • Purpose: Develop, maintain, and manage product specifications that meet customer, legislative, and industry standards while ensuring manufacturing specifications align with product launches and updates.
  • Scope: Includes responsibility for quality, compliance, and departmental leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Specification Management:
    • Create and manage product specifications across retailer portals with precision and timeliness.
    • Ensure specifications reflect quality and compliance.
  2. Team Leadership:
    • Support and mentor the Specifications Technologist team.
    • Deputise for the Specifications Manager when needed.
  3. Collaboration:
    • Partner with NPD, procurement, quality control, and production teams to resolve specification-related issues.
    • Assist during external and third-party audits.
  4. Compliance & Artwork:
    • Review and approve product artwork to meet UK/EU regulations and customer requirements.
    • Interpret and implement food regulations, policies, and practices.
  5. Food Safety Culture:
    • Actively promote food safety, preventing deviations that could impact product safety, quality, or legality.

Skills & Experience

  • Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive experience in writing specifications on online retailer portals.
    • Strong understanding of food labeling regulations, safety standards, and customer codes of practice.
  • Analytical Abilities:
    • Meticulous attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Proven experience in artwork review, including ingredient declarations and nutritional labeling.
  • Leadership:
    • Previous experience leading or supporting a team within the food industry.
  • Education:
    • A food-related degree or equivalent qualification is highly preferred.
