Job Title: Deputy Children’s Home ManagerLocation: Chard, SomersetSalary: £34,320 - £36,400 per annum + £150 per month on-call allowanceHours: Primarily office hours (9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday), with the flexibility to work shifts, including sleep-ins, to meet the needs of the business.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Deputy Children’s Home Manager to assist in managing the day-to-day operations of a residential home for children and young people aged 10-18 years with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, specifically mental health challenges or behaviours that challenge others. This role requires a dedicated professional who is passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives.
The home provides care and accommodation for up to three children or young people of both genders.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing all aspects of the daily operations of the children’s home, ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of the young people in line with Ofsted regulations and company policies.
- Supervise and support staff to uphold high standards of care, values, and ethical practices, while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and inspection frameworks.
- Provide coaching and supervision to team members, promoting their professional development and ensuring a high level of performance.
- Participate in the on-call roster to ensure operational continuity and support when needed.
- Liaise with external agencies and other departments to develop tailored plans and programs that meet the needs of the young people and contractual requirements.
- Assess risks during the admissions process to accurately determine the immediate vulnerabilities and needs of young people.
- Promote a culture of health and safety, ensuring compliance with company and external accreditation standards.
- Build professional, respectful, and trusting relationships with young people to support their growth and foster positive behavioural changes.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating the importance of education, care, and life skills to help young people transition successfully into adulthood.
- Complete and maintain accurate paperwork to a high standard, meeting required timescales and communication guidelines.
- Support senior management in implementing developmental strategies and embracing organizational change.
Skills and Attributes
Essential:
- QCF Level 3 in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
- Managerial or supervisory experience within residential care.
- Full UK driving license.
- Experience in project/work planning, monitoring, and reviewing.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Desirable:
- Working towards a QCF Level 5 qualification in a relevant field.
