Our client, a state-funded special school in Taunton, is seeking a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This specialist setting caters to students in Years 5 - 11 who have an EHCP supporting their SEMH and Social Communication and Language (SCL) needs. The school is dedicated to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and structured environment where students can build resilience, develop social and emotional skills, and achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support to students with SEMH and SCL needs in both classroom and outdoor learning environments.

  • Assist in delivering a core curriculum focusing on literacy, numeracy, PSHE, and PE, alongside wider subjects including Art, Science, Careers, and Life Skills.

  • Support students in developing self-confidence, emotional regulation, and independence.

  • Facilitate learning experiences beyond the classroom, including forest school, outdoor education, and enrichment activities.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to implement personalised support strategies.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere, ensuring every student feels valued and understood.

Requirements:
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, ideally within an educational or care setting.

  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students with complex needs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and behavioural needs.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

  • An enhanced child workforce DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
