Job Title: Housing Options Officer

Location: Taunton

Salary: Circa £20 per hour PAYE

Hours: 8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday

Job Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated Housing Options Officer to join a dynamic team in Taunton. The role involves providing advice, information, and assistance to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will support applicants in exploring their housing options, offering tailored advice, and working with a range of partners to prevent and reduce homelessness in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice on homelessness prevention, housing options, tenure rights, and security of tenure.
  • Communicate effectively with applicants and their representatives via phone, email, and letter.
  • Gather relevant information, including financial and health statements, to support decision-making and ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of applicants' circumstances and needs, identifying causes of homelessness or risk and determining suitable housing solutions.
  • Create personalised housing plans in collaboration with applicants, helping them secure and retain accommodation.
  • Ensure all homeless applications (Part 7 application) comply with current legislation, notifying applicants of decisions within target timescales.
  • Make appropriate referrals to partner agencies and support services, including those dealing with mental health, substance misuse, domestic abuse, and financial issues.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Strong understanding of homelessness legislation and the Homelessness Code of Guidance.
  • Experience in housing advice, support services, or a related field.
  • Ability to assess complex situations and provide clear, effective guidance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
