We are excited to offer the opportunity to join our team within a specialist Academy in Taunton, supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) issues. Our school is rapidly progressing and expanding, catering to students aged 5-11 with SEMH difficulties. We are seeking enthusiastic, resilient, and highly motivated Teaching Assistants/Mentors who are passionate about inclusive education.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Assist in the educational, personal, and social development of designated students under the direction and guidance of the Principal, SENCo, and class teachers.
  • Support students by adopting relevant strategies and techniques to enable them to access the curriculum and engage with their learning.
  • Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to students’ responses.
  • Deliver measurable impact on student attainment as well as social and emotional well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to fulfil the requirements of the role.
Responsibilities:
  • Student Support: Provide tailored support to students with special educational needs, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Adaptation of Materials: Assist in adapting teaching materials and resources to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Classroom Assistance: Support the class teacher in managing the classroom and ensuring a positive learning environment.
  • Individual and Group Work: Work with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to provide focused support.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement behaviour management strategies to support students in developing positive behaviours.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and report on the progress of students, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of students during school hours, including break times.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to supporting young people with SEMH.
  • Resilience and motivation to help students achieve their full potential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the needs of each student.
  • Experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
