Responsibilities:

As the Purchasing Manager, you will have overall responsibility for purchasing and buying goods for stock or resale for the organisation. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing the organisation's purchasing strategy
  • Reviewing stock profiles and introducing new or improved methods of inventory control
  • Monitoring and forecasting inventory trends
  • Liaising between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments, and customers
  • Networking with the supply chain to maximise pricing strategies and agreements
  • Ensuring on-time delivery from suppliers and monitoring supply chain performance
  • Managing inventory, including storage, locations, transactions, and bills of materials
  • Implementing and maintaining a perpetual stock take programme
  • Completing transactions in accordance with procedures
  • Maintaining agreed inventory levels and recommending adjustments

Essential (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • CIPS qualification or a demonstration of experience within the procurement field
  • Ideally, a background in engineering with a service and manufacturing profile
  • Ability to inspire confidence in customers and suppliers
  • Commercial ability to maximise financial returns
  • High level of competency in the use of IT systems
  • Understanding of stock management systems and financial controls

Desirable (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):

In addition to the essential requirements, the following qualifications and experience would be beneficial:

  • Experience working in a similar purchasing role
  • Knowledge of engineering components and their supply chains
  • Familiarity with procurement software and systems
