Are you a dedicated Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting secondary school students?

GSL Education are currently seeking a Specialist Secondary Teaching and Learning Assistant for a well-established school in High Peak. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are motivated to provide targeted support for students with varying educational needs, ensuring they thrive in an inclusive and stimulating environment.

Role Overview:

In this role, you will work closely with secondary school teachers to deliver targeted support to students with special educational needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD and other learning difficulties. You will be assisting in the planning and delivery of lessons, providing one-on-one and small-group support and ensuring that students have access to the resources and assistance they need to succeed.

Specialist Secondary Teaching and Learning Assistant Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with SEN in the classroom, assisting with lesson delivery, classroom activities and individual learning tasks.
  • Work closely with students in small groups or one-on-one sessions to ensure they fully engage with the curriculum and achieve academic success.
  • Monitor student progress, providing feedback to the teacher and contributing to individual learning plans.
  • Support students in their emotional and social development, encouraging positive behaviour and conflict resolution.
  • Assist with the preparation of resources and materials to aid in lesson delivery, ensuring that all students can access learning materials.
  • Help with behaviour management, ensuring that students remain focused and on-task while promoting a calm and structured learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other support staff and professionals to ensure a holistic approach to supporting students’ learning and personal development.
  • Contribute to the school’s inclusive ethos by supporting students from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs.

Specialist Secondary Teaching and Learning Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, particularly in a secondary school setting.
  • A strong understanding of SEN, including working with students who have Autism, ADHD and other learning challenges.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with students, teachers and parents.
  • A proactive and positive approach to supporting students in overcoming academic and personal challenges.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and flexibility.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
