About the Role

As a Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA), you'll be a key player in crafting personalised educational journeys for students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. Partnering with teachers, you'll create a nurturing learning environment, tailor lesson plans, and employ diverse strategies to inspire and engage students. Your role includes tracking progress, offering feedback, and fostering both academic and personal growth. Working alongside other staff, you'll help ensure a unified and inclusive educational experience for every student.

Key Responsibilities of Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)

  • Assist in developing and implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) that align with students' specific needs and goals.
  • Employ diverse instructional strategies, including hands-on activities, multimedia resources, and interactive discussions, to cater to different learning styles and keep students engaged.
  • Regularly assess students' understanding and progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to help them improve and succeed.
  • Foster a classroom atmosphere that is welcoming, respectful, and conducive to learning, where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Work closely with teachers and other staff to share best practices, develop interdisciplinary projects, and ensure a cohesive and inclusive educational experience for all students.
  • Provide additional support and guidance to students who may be struggling, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
  • Keep detailed records of students' progress, attendance, and behavior, ensuring that all information is up-to-date and accurately reflects each student's achievements and areas for improvement.

Requirements of Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)

  • Previous experience in a similar role or working with students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Understanding of the national curriculum and strategies for supporting students with SEMH.
  • Ability to employ a range of teaching strategies that engage and inspire students, making complex concepts accessible and interesting.
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, building positive relationships and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Passion for supporting students with SEMH and a commitment to their academic and personal development.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies, with a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
