GSL Education are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Specialist Primary Teaching and Learning Assistant to join a vibrant and supportive school in High Peak. This is an exciting opportunity to work with children of varying abilities, supporting their academic and personal growth within an inclusive learning environment.

Role Overview:

In this role, you will provide essential support to primary school students, working closely with the class teacher to ensure the academic, social and emotional needs of children are met. You will be working with students across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with a focus on those with special educational needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD and other learning difficulties.

Specialist Primary Teaching and Learning Assistant Key Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the class teacher to plan and deliver engaging lessons that cater to the diverse needs of the class, with a particular focus on students with SEN.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to help students access learning materials and develop essential skills in literacy, numeracy and more.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning resources and materials to support effective lesson delivery.
  • Support students in their emotional and social development, promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Help students develop key skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving.
  • Monitor students’ progress, providing feedback and support where necessary and contribute to the development of individual learning plans.
  • Ensure the classroom is a safe, inclusive space where students feel supported and motivated to learn.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members, including teachers and support staff, to ensure students’ needs are fully met.

Specialist Primary Teaching and Learning Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience working in an educational setting, particularly with primary school-aged children.
  • Knowledge of supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), including children with Autism, ADHD, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with children, teachers and parents.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A patient, empathetic and caring attitude, with a commitment to helping students succeed.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
