Job SummaryMy client is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Financial Controller to oversee their financial operations. You will be able to support the current Finance Director as he moves into a more strategic role for this rapidly expanding company, with a view to replacing him in the next 12 to 24 months. Day to day you will be responsible for managing financial reporting, cash management, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and supporting and developing the current team. This role requires an affinity with various systems, particularly XERO and related reporting systems. You will play a pivotal role in guiding the financial strategy of the organisation and ensuring the integrity of financial data and the high standards to which we hold the organisation.DutiesThe company has a turnover of almost £10 million but buys and sells some £35 million in fleet every year and manages around £32 million in funding outstanding. They have no debt other than our fleet finance so cash management is a vital element in this position. They manage their working capital internally.
The company purchased in December 2022 through an EOT (Employee Ownership Trust) and their Managing Director. They repaid the full purchase price of £15.4 million within 22 months and lay the foundations for a strong growth strategy.
You will
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Manage corporation tax and VAT and the timely filing and payment.
- Develop budgets with the Senior Management Team, monitor them, and provide insights to promote the growth of the company, conducting regular financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support for decision-making.
- Liaise with funders and external auditors during audits and ensure all necessary documentation is prepared.
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and best practices to ensure compliance.
