Our client is a fast growing, vertically integrated renewable energy company, focused on developing, building and operating large-scale solar and BESS projects.They are a dynamic and entrepreneurial company, comprising of a growing team of highly experienced industry experts.They are looking to hire a skilled Commercial Manager to join the delivery team and be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.Responsibilities
  • Contract Management: Lead the commercial management of contracts related to multi-MW BESS, from tendering and negotiation to contract execution and close-out.
  • Commercial Management: Being a central source for the protection of Innova’s position on securities, performance, availability and warranties with the BESS supply chain, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies.
  • Cost Control: Monitor and control project costs (including but not limited to negotiating and agreeing contractor payment applications and variation orders) and how contracts and tenders will affect the business case, ensuring alignment with finance on the budget and identifying opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Interface Management: Working between the BESS supply chain with Innova’s current wider suppliers and contractors (such as EPC) to ensure there are no gaps in between commercials, contracts and securities.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks associated with contracting works, including handling claims and disputes effectively.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate closely with external stakeholders (e.g. funders, investors, optimisers), internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure clear communication and alignment on project objectives.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on project progress, and commercial performance to senior management.
  • Compliance: Ensure all contracting activities comply with UK regulations, industry standards, and company policies, particularly with regard to health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Commercial Operations:  Manage the commercial aspects (e.g. availability warranty) of the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contract to ensure payment applications are aligned to the agreed O&M contract.
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial management of energy storage projects or similar within the renewable energy sector.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field. A relevant professional qualification (e.g., MRICS, MCIPS) is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record in contract management.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the UK energy market. Familiarity with NEC and FIDIC contract forms is a plus.
