A large independent packaging distributor who provides solutions to a wide range of customer markets such as industrial, food service, pharmaceutical, healthcare, grocery, retail to name but a few are looking to recruit a R&D Engineer to join their team.
Title: R&D Engineer
Role and Responsibilities:
Product Development:
Design and develop new stretch film formulations and structures to meet customer and market demands.
Optimise material properties such as tensile strength, elasticity, clarity, and puncture resistance.
Conduct trials and experiments to improve film performance and production efficiency.
Process Optimization:
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to refine blown film extrusion processes.
Evaluate and implement new technologies and equipment to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges in production.
Research and Innovation:
Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in polymer science and the blown film industry.
Explore alternative materials, including bio-based or recycled polymers, to align with sustainability goals.
Conduct competitive analysis to benchmark product performance against industry standards.
Quality Assurance:
Work with quality control teams to ensure products meet specifications and regulatory requirements.
Develop and maintain test protocols for evaluating film properties.
Analyse test results and adjust formulations or processes as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with sales and marketing teams to understand customer needs and translate them into product innovations.
Provide technical support to customers, addressing inquiries related to product performance and application.
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare detailed reports and presentations on R&D activities, findings, and recommendations.
Maintain accurate records of formulations, experiments, and process improvements.
Qualifications and knowledge:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry and material properties.
Proficiency in using lab equipment for testing film properties (e.g., tensile testers, rheometers, etc.).
Familiarity with sustainability trends in plastics, such as recycling and biodegradable materials.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Experience:
3+ years of experience in R&D or a technical role within the plastics or blown film industry.
Hands-on experience with stretch film or blown film extrusion processes is highly desirable
Salary: Excellent salary package, negotiable depending on experience.
