CNC Operator / Machinist / Miller / Turner / Setter / Grinder / Programmer

We’re looking for a CNC Operator / Machinist who has either a strong machining background or who has completed an engineering apprenticeship and has experience as a Miller / Turner / Setter / Grinder / Programmer to join a well-established and leading engineering / manufacturer based in Thatcham, Berkshire.

SALARY: £35,360 - £41,600 per annum / £17 - £20 per hour + Shift Allowance Premium + Generous Benefits (see below)

SHIFT ALLOWANCE PREMIUM: 30% Uplift for Nights and a 25% Uplift for Weekends

WORKING HOURS / SHIFT PATTERNS:

  • DAYS: 0800 - 1700 - Monday to Friday
  • NIGHTS: 1900 - 0600 - Monday to Thursday
  • WEEKENDS: 0600 - 1830 - Friday to Sunday

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a CNC Operator / Machinist who has either a strong machining background or who has completed an engineering apprenticeship and has experience as a Miller / Turner / Setter / Grinder / Programmer with a high attention to detail.

Working as the CNC Operator / Machinist you will be responsible for setting, operating, and running machines to produce transmission components to the company quality standards.

As a CNC Operator / Machinist you will be required to have close attention to detail and have a good understanding of machine set up approaches as you will be working to highly complex components with a strict GD&T adherence.

There will also be a requirement to complete Quality Control Plans and other documentation to support the company’s high-quality standard.

As a successful candidate you will join the company’s high paced and fast-moving machine shop environment and will have the opportunity to work on a number of exciting projects using the latest cutting-edge technology.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

As a CNC Operator / Machinist you will have the following skills and experience:

  • You will have either a strong machining background or who have completed an engineering apprenticeship
  • Sound working knowledge of engineering / manufacturing processes is required with the ability to read complex technical drawings with GD&T’s
  • The successful candidate will have proven experience in setting, editing and operating vertical and CNC machines, along with practical tool making experience
  • Extensive experience within a Motorsport / Automotive / Aerospace environment is highly advantageous due to comparable quality and delivery requirements in those industries
  • The company run an offline programming environment / OPE for Milling and Turning and previous experience would be advantageous
  • Within Turning the company run a number of Okuma machines and for Milling they run Matsuura and Mori Seiki and previous experience using these machines would be advantageous
  • The ability to program, set, operate and run both cylindrical (internal/external) and manual surface grinding machines. Studer for CNC and J&S for manual would be advantageous
  • The ability to visualise finished products and an understanding of the properties of the materials you work with (soft and hard steels, aluminium, and magnesium) is critical.
  • The ability to communicate concerns back to the Team Leader / Manufacturing Engineer is essential
