Job Title: Functional Skills Tutor
Location: Thetford, Norfolk
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Salary: 24,961 - 35,360 per annum (Depending on Qualifications)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary range is determined by qualifications, QTS/PGCE will be considered up to top of the scale, any candidates without will be limited to 28,600.

Role Overview:
As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and support to students aged 14-19. You will be responsible for providing functional skills instruction in Maths and/or English, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, and fostering individual student progress. You will help students with complex needs and behaviours achieve their potential and progress through educational milestones.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning:
o Deliver Functional Skills lessons from Entry Level to Level 2 in Maths and/or English.
o Create an inspiring and inclusive learning environment, respecting cultural and individual differences.
o Plan and deliver engaging lessons that enable learners to achieve and progress.
o Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to meet diverse student needs.
o Set clear teaching objectives and monitor student progress through assessments, tracking, and reports.
Student Support:
- Build effective relationships with students, parents, and other stakeholders to support learner development.
- Manage classroom behaviour, providing a safe and supportive environment for learning.
- Work with other staff members to ensure effective pastoral and behavioural support for students with complex needs.
Progress Monitoring:
- Regularly assess student progress and provide feedback to guide learner improvement.
- Maintain detailed records of student performance and report on outcomes as needed.
Collaboration:
- Work as part of a small, dedicated team committed to providing the best possible education experience for all students.
- Be flexible and willing to adapt to changing student needs, including supporting colleagues when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Recognised teaching qualification (minimum Level 5).
- Experience in teaching and planning, especially with young people who have complex needs or behavioural challenges.
- Extensive behaviour management experience in an educational setting.
- Ability to create and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and promoting learner welfare.
Desirable Skills:
- Degree in a relevant subject.
- Experience working with disengaged or hard-to-reach students.
