Purchasing Assistant

Our client, a well-established, hugely successful and growing manufacturing company, based in Thetford, are currently seeking a Purchasing Assistant to join their team.

This is a full time, permanent position, working Monday to Friday 8:00 - 17:00.

Key Skills:

  • Experience of MRP systems and processes
  • Purchasing/Supply Chain Experience
  • Good computer skills utilising Microsoft Office - particularly Excel at intermediate user level
  • Ability to analyse and manipulate data
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with clarity on all levels
  • Ability to prioritise work, work independently as well as part of a team to meet business deadlines
  • Methodical, systematic approach to tasks with excellent attention to detail
  • Understand supply chain processes
  • Basic understanding of technical drawings

Duties and Responsibilities:

Working within the purchasing department you will be involved in:

  • Contributing towards and maintain strong win-win relationships with all suppliers
  • Managing and updating order schedules with suppliers and frequently contacting them to ensure orders are being shipped on time.
  • Work closely and efficiently with the Purchase Ledger & Stores Teams to help resolve delivery issues, invoice queries and returns to suppliers.
  • Strong communication with the Stock Control Team regarding incoming deliveries and keeping the Delivery Calendar accurate and up to date.
  • Updating the shortage report with PO details and confirmed stock-in dates.
  • Check all supplier acknowledgements quickly to highlight and correct any discrepancies with respect to price, spec or delivery date
  • Keep supplier pricing up to date on the system to ensure all POs are issued accurately from MRP.
  • Issuing purchase orders to suppliers, being mindful of carriage charges.
  • Assisting Purchasing Manager with supply chain improvement projects
  • Assist with supplier returns efficiently and maintain good communication with colleagues.
  • Liaising with the wider team on out-of-stock items, product updates/changes and queries.
