Role: Technologist - Safety Product Testing

Location: Kettering, Northants 

Salary: £25,000.00 - £27,000.00

Hours: 37.5 hrs per week 

Our client has a full-time vacancy for a Technologist to work in our Safety Product Testing department.

About The Department
Our clients Safety Product Testing team conducts testing on a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for a global customer base, to ensure products meet a minimum level of protection. PPE tested includes gloves, fall protection, motorcycle garments, high visibility clothing, eyewear, helmets, hearing protection, chainsaw garments, kneepads, sports protection, plus many more.

The department consists of a series of accredited laboratories, housing a range of test equipment and machines, used by the team to test the physical properties of PPE against International and European standards.

Results from testing are reported to customers and used for their product development or to apply for CE or UKCA certification.
The Safety Product Testing team consists of around 25 multiskilled technicians, technologists and other support staff, arranging and conducting the testing of PPE.

About The Role
This Technologist vacancy is predominantly for the clothing and apparel area and will involve arranging the testing high visibility garments, clothing to protect against heat and flame, chemical suits and respiratory protection. There may also be a requirement to be involved in other PPE areas over time.

  • As a Technologist within the Safety Products Testing team, you will be required to carry out the following:
  • Read, learn and understand international standards for testing PPE
  • Booking in testing onto system and providing instructions for testing required to Technicians
  • Writing electronic reports and communicating results to customers
  • Answering customer enquiries, technical questions, providing quotations and support
  • Provide training and support to Technicians
  • Participate in customer visits on and off site
  • Participate in webinars, seminars and other events
  • Full training will be provided for all aspects of the role where required.

About You

Ability to travel both in the UK and overseas with valid driving licence and valid passport
You must be highly organised, enthusiastic and able to work independently and as part of a team.
You should be competent in the use of Microsoft Office products, in particular MS Excel and MS Word.
Be able to accurately follow testing procedures and methods
You will need to demonstrate excellent time management skills and to possess a flexible approach to working being able to respond to changing deadlines and priorities
You will need to have a keen eye for detail and be methodical when making electronic entries onto systems and when completing paperwork
Experience of the following would be desirable;
Working in a laboratory
Use of public standards
Knowledge of clothing materials or PPE manufacture is desirable but not essential
Understanding and working with a quality management system
