Customs Coordinator- Job Profile

Streamline Search are recruiting on behalf of our client. Our client has been established for nearly 50 years and are experienced in the Freight and Logistics industry. They are based in Tilbury at the heart of the shipping industry in the Southeast. They handle importations and exportations of all/any cargos by multimodal means- Air, Sea, Road & Rail.

Customs Coordinator - Job Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day, you will be part of a team and will arrange an array of import clearances for key clients, processing promptly to ensure a high level of service.
  • Communicating with our various customers, suppliers, and sub-contractors to obtain and provide required information to process customs clearances accurately and compliantly within HMRC's guidelines.
  • Prepare and review import documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of all necessary documents to customs authorities and other relevant bodies.
  • Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and transportation companies to ensure efficient import operations.
  • Communicate with suppliers and internal teams to gather required information and documentation.
  • Classify imported goods under the correct tariff headings.
  • Ensure accurate valuation of goods and proper application of duties, taxes, and fees.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams on import procedures and customs requirements.
  • Support the development and implementation of import-related policies and procedures.

Customs Coordinator - Job Requirements

  • Proven successful track record of at least two years working for a small to medium sized freight forwarder.
  • Must have previous experience with processing & completing entries using CDS (Experience must include either of the following - Deep Sea Ocean freight clearances or European road freight clearances).
  • Be confident navigating HMRC's online tariffs (UK online trade tariff and other. Gov pages) and have a good understanding of customs commodity codes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of FTA, knowledge of Origin and Preference.
  • Experience with using CNS and Destin8 (CCS-UK experience would also be useful but not a deal breaker). Our forwarding software is multi-freight.
