We are seeking an experienced and qualified Fire Door Carpenter for a project based on a government site in Torquay. The role involves the installation, maintenance, and upgrading of fire-rated doors to meet fire safety and compliance standards. This is a project-based, self-employed position with an initial commitment of several weeks, with the possibility of extension for a few months based on project requirements and performance. The ideal candidate will have experience working with fire doors in high-compliance environments and a strong understanding of relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Install, upgrade, and repair fire-rated doors and frames in accordance with industry standards and government site specifications
- Conduct door surveys and inspections to assess fire door compliance
- Fit door hardware, including closers, hinges, locks, drop seals, and fire strips, ensuring all components meet fire safety requirements
- Apply fire-resistant materials such as fire mastic, intumescent seals, and hardwood packers as required
- Maintain accurate records of work completed and materials used
- Collaborate with site supervisors and other trades to ensure timely project completion
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and site security protocols
Requirements:
- Proven experience in fire door installation and maintenance
- Familiarity with fire safety regulations, including BM Trada or similar certifications (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of fire-resistant materials, sealants, and hardware
- Valid CSCS card and relevant fire door safety certifications (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Passive Fire Protection, Fire Door Maintenance & Installation)
- Own tools and reliable transportation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- DBS certification may be required for work on a government site
