Senior Electronic Test Technician - Optical Components

A leading organisation, involved in the design, development and manufacture of a range of systems and complex componentry, used in a wide range of applications including semiconductor electronics, telecoms, ruggedised systems and switches.

Their innovation in design and production, as well as their future product mapping, sets them aside as from other organisations.

Couple this with a planned expansion, based on orders won and a reputation for problem solving, sets them at the forefront of technology within their field.

Testing and measurement

Perform detailed testing of electronic and optical components, including lasers, photodiodes, modulators and optical amplifiers, using advanced testing equipment (e.g., optical spectrum analysers, power meters, OTDRs).

Conduct fibre-optic testing including insertion loss and polarisation mode dispersion.

Utilise precision instruments to measure optical parameters such as wavelength, power and bandwidth.

Data analysis & reporting

Analyse test data to identify trends, inconsistencies and potential issues.

Compile comprehensive test reports and present findings to engineering and production teams.

Provide recommendations for process improvements based on test results.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to optical component performance, including alignment issues, signal degradation, and connector problems.

Work closely with R&D and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues and optimize product designs.

Your skills, attributes and qualifications will include:

  • Degree qualified in Optical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in using optical testing equipment such as OTDRs, optical spectrum analysers, and power meters.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience with automated testing systems.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality control principles.
