Are you passionate about making a difference in education and looking for a fulfilling teaching role? Here at Long-Term Teachers, we support a fantastic independent special school in Totnes, renowned for delivering high-quality education and pastoral care to students aged 11-19. Rated 'good’ by Ofsted, this school emphasizes the emotional and social development of its students, fostering strong, trusting relationships to support their success.

About the school:

Our school is part of a service founded by experienced SEN teachers, with several independent schools and alternative provisions nationwide. The school provides tailored support to students facing complex social, emotional and behavioural challenges. Offering a diverse curriculum that integrates both academic and vocational pathways, the school boasts excellent facilities, including food technology labs, motor and construction workshops and a sports hall.

About the role:

As an English Teacher, your main responsibility will be to plan and deliver engaging lessons that support the academic progress of all students. You will mainly be working on a 1:1 basis. Creativity is essential in ensuring all students remain engaged in their learning. You’ll set clear, achievable goals to help them build on prior knowledge and make significant progress.

Given that the students have complex learning needs, SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) difficulties, and may display challenging behaviour, strong behaviour management skills, patience and resilience are crucial for this role.

Who we’re looking for:

  • A passion for teaching English and a commitment to helping students thrive

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is preferred but not essential. You must have GCSEs in English and Maths (grade C or above).

  • Experience working with SEN is essential

  • Ability to work across different sites if required (all local)

  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle

  • Strong team player with the ability to build rapport with students, staff and parents

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
