Dunbar Education is seeking a proactive and dedicated Site Manager to join a thriving SEN school providing specialist education for up to 40 pupils aged 11-16. This unique provision supports pupils with a range of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including behavioural and social challenges, as well as additional specific learning difficulties.

About the School

The school serves pupils with varied educational histories, including poor attendance, exclusion from mainstream settings, and complex SEN profiles such as ADHD, ASD, and dyslexia. With a dedicated staff and a commitment to maintaining a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment, the school is seeking a Site Manager who can ensure that its facilities are well-maintained, secure, and conducive to the needs of both pupils and staff.

Main Purpose

The Site Manager is responsible for maintaining the school site in a safe, secure, clean, and welcoming state. This involves close collaboration with the senior leadership team to coordinate necessary maintenance, manage contractors, and implement effective health and safety measures across the premises.

Key Responsibilities

Security and Premises Management

  • Ensure the security of the school premises, including unlocking and locking the school buildings and site as required.
  • Monitor security systems (e.g., alarms, CCTV) and carry out site inspections to identify and address security risks.
  • Respond promptly to any incidents or concerns regarding site security.

Site Safety and Maintenance

  • Ensure the site remains a safe environment for all pupils, staff, and visitors at all times.
  • Carry out regular checks of equipment, machinery, and building infrastructure, reporting any concerns or repair needs.
  • Maintain the school's heating, lighting, and alarm systems, ensuring they function correctly.
  • Take responsibility for the upkeep of external areas, including playgrounds, car parks, pathways, and green spaces.

Repairs and Contractor Liaison

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks and minor repairs to ensure the site remains in good condition.
  • Coordinate with external contractors for specialised maintenance work, ensuring tasks are completed to high standards.
  • Oversee the ordering, control, and safe storage of cleaning materials and other supplies.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Implement and uphold the school's health and safety policies, ensuring all site activities comply with legislation.
  • Maintain accurate health and safety records, documenting inspections, training, and other compliance activities.
  • Arrange for regular inspections and additional specialised checks when necessary.
  • Conduct health and safety inductions for all new staff and pupils and provide regular refresher training.
Health & Safety Key Tasks
  • Implement the school's health and safety policy effectively across the site.
  • Document all health and safety actions, maintain updated records and complete any required actions post-inspections.
  • Undertake health and safety training and stay informed of best practices and requirements.
  • Keep site health and safety information accessible and up to date for all school staff.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have experience in site management, facilities management, or a similar role, ideally within a school or SEN setting. They should be a highly organised and proactive individual, able to identify and address maintenance needs promptly and effectively. Strong communication skills are essential, along with a solid understanding of health and safety protocols.

  • Practical DIY Skills - Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks independently and efficiently.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection - Knowledge of safeguarding policies, with the ability to uphold these standards to protect pupils and staff.
  • Awareness of Health, Safety, Security, and Hygiene - A strong understanding of health and safety regulations, hygiene standards, and the security needs of an SEN school environment.
  • Self-Management and Organisational Skills - Capable of managing own workload, prioritising tasks, and ensuring all responsibilities are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Problem-Solving Skills - Resourceful in addressing unexpected maintenance issues and finding solutions that maintain the safety and functionality of the school.
  • Attention to Detail - Diligent and thorough in all tasks, with a keen eye for detail to maintain high standards of site upkeep and safety.
